Recently, I asked ChatGPT, “Which hand is most predominant in machete attacks?” Not surprisingly, it answered that right-handed people carry out the vast majority of machete attacks.

The full answer from ChatGPT:

“Most studies and reports on machete attacks indicate that the dominant hand of the attacker—usually the right hand—is more frequently involved in such assaults. This is because the majority of people are right-handed, which influences their grip, control, and swing technique. Consequently, right-handed individuals are more likely to execute powerful and precise strikes with a machete.“

It would not shock you to know that the answer did not satisfy me!

I decided to embark on a project to analyze YouTube footage of machete attacks. To that end, I have created a spreadsheet that breaks each attack into various categories.

Check out the screenshot below. Based on several videos, I have settled on these elements to look out for.

The attacker is right-handed. He attacked with angle 3 (forehand strike to the torso). In addition, he engaged in a frontal assault. Lastly, he appears to be in his late teens/early 20s.

My gut feeling is that, after 100 videos (my goal), I will find that right-handed young males commit most attacks. Further, I predict that my analysis will reveal that most attacks are either forehand attacks to the head (angle 1) or overhead attacks to the head (angle 12).

However, predictions have a funny way of turning out wrong many times. Hence, my need to analyze the videos.
