Video of the Week 32: Left Hand High Palis-Palis
Heeeyo! Let’s talk about the high palis-palis, specifically the left-hand version.
I use this technique to counter high-line attacks. This maneuver is effective against angle 12 strikes and high versions of angles 1 and 2, but it has limited utility. Sweeping the attack over my head is the key, as seen in the video below.
The right-hand version of this technique is easy enough, but doing it left-handed is a challenge!
Take your time doing the left-hand version for the first time. Start with the basic move against angle 1. Emphasize two aspects of the technique: (1) sweeping the stick over your head and (2) utilizing the handshake motion. In particular, flick your wrists when sweeping the attack over your head. As you probably already know, this technique usually only works against high-line attacks. It is not appropriate for any attack below shoulder level.
