A Great Opportunity

A “Great Opportunity” is how I view my current right shoulder situation. To begin with, my right shoulder issues have gotten worse since October. There have been peaks and valleys with the pain in the front of the shoulder. Some days have been better than others.

I had two painful episodes that prompted me to seek out a shoulder doctor. On both occasions, the pain briefly spiked to 9 or 10 on the pain scale while I was teaching private lessons. I felt as though there was something seriously wrong with my right shoulder.

Long story short, my shoulder doctor has provisionally diagnosed me with biceps tendonitis, specifically at the shoulder insertion. He prescribed me a course of physiotherapy, which I started the next day. I’ve done the prescribed exercises for three days and can feel a difference in my right shoulder already.

That said, it will take a while for the tendonitis to heal. Assuming I’m consistent with the exercise program, the doctor and the physiotherapist told me I should heal within 6 to 8 weeks.

Along with the prescription for physiotherapy, I underwent an ultrasound yesterday to check for any tears in the shoulder area. I will find out the results at the follow-up appointment on March 19th.

By now, you’re probably thinking, “blah, blah, blah.” I don’t blame you! 🙂

Due to the shoulder pain, I’ve not done push-ups or pull-ups since October. Let me tell you, that is a freaking bummer. Any time, I encountered considerable pain any time I did those exercises. The doctor advised me to avoid those exercises for the time being.

Being right-hand dominant, I’ve had to switch to teaching ONLY left-hand material in my private lessons. Practicing stick techniques with the left hand is fun and challenging. At times, it can be frustrating. I consider myself semi-proficient with my left hand, but I need much more improvement.

Other Stuff I’ve Written

I published the above video 7 years ago. Since then, I’ve improved my left hand somewhat since then. Emphasis on somewhat.

Simply put, it’s time for a crash project on my left-hand material. This is the “great opportunity” I speak of. That said, while I rehab my right shoulder, I will train and teach strictly left-hand material. This should result in significant improvement.
