Video of the Week 23: Double Zero after the Slap off/Pull Off Drill
A few weeks ago, I posted a video demonstrating the 12 angles of attack with the double zero. In the video below, I demonstrate the double zero of the slap-off/pull-off drill.
From a teaching and training perspective, mixing things up on the basic drills is fun, especially with techniques like the double zero. Believe me, when I say that you can apply the double zero to nearly every aspect of Modern Arnis. As such, this concept is enormously useful.
What is the double zero? Some call it “doblete” or “doblada.”
Anyway, the double zero consists of two hits inside one loop.
Some have misunderstood this technique to denote two loops, an error that I have corrected more than a few times. Anyway, the advantage of this technique is two quick hits in succession. As such, it’s an incredibly useful technique for your toolbox.
I generally teach this technique from angles one and two—the angle one version traverses diagonally from the right shoulder to the left hip. I execute this version when I perform the pull-off in the video.
On the other hand, the angle two version goes from the left shoulder to the right hip. This occurs after I execute the slap-off technique, incorporating the double zero move.
Give it a try! In the meantime, please subscribe to this blog!
