Video of the Week 18: Sinawali Squat
The Sinawali Squat is a great exercise for conditioning the legs. Why not condition the legs while doing any sinawali exercise? It doesn’t matter if it’s single, double, redonda or reverse. The impetus for this comes from a conversation that I had with Rosh, the owner of the ABS Training Centre.
I have several kids and some adults in my Thursday night Arnis class at this place. Some background about this fantastic place. One night after class, Rosh told me about the brutal workouts that he endured during his gymnastics career and a particular workout called “The Death Circuit.” According to Rosh, it’s a 3 hour workout focused on gymnastics. Some of his students have attempted the mini version of “The Death Circuit” and are thrilled to make it through. I, in turn, related to him my experiences surviving the dog days of August during my high school football years. We found that we share the same opinion that many learn valuable life lessons when going through grueling practices.
Through these conversations, we came up with the idea of a “Hell Class” for the Arnis class, more aimed at the youngsters than the adults.
So I’ve slowly introduced various exercises and upping the intensity on a weekly basis. I’ve asked the young padawan to incorporate the exercises during the week. I’m not sure they are listening to me. I hope they are.
As you might guess, one of the exercises is the Sinawali Squat. I introduced it last week and had the class do it for three minutes. The adults did fine. The kids….not so much. Aha! I’m gonna have them do this exercise every week along with the others I’ve introduced.
I’ll have to come up with others to challenge the kids (evil cackle).
To my readers, try it. I would appreciate any feedback on the Sinawali Squat. Have a great week!
Before you venture into the wild jungle of the Internet, might I persuade you to fuel my caffeine addiction? Your kindness could be the very thing that keeps the keyboard clacking and the ideas flowing!
I need your help defraying the increasing expenses of the blog/website.
