Tulak is prevalent in Modern Arnis. This concept involves pushing or shoving an opponent, vital for creating distance or disrupting their balance. Pushing/tulak can be used defensively to maintain space or offensively to set up a counterattack. Practitioners leverage their body mechanics and spatial awareness against opponents. Furthermore, I use tulak to break another person’s posture, opening a window of opportunity for me to exploit.

Exercises for Pushing/Tulak

As you can see, I demonstrate some physical exercises to improve the effectiveness of your tulak/pushing maneuver. Pushing exercises are fundamental to building the upper body. They mainly target muscles like the chest, shoulders, and triceps. Incorporating movements such as push-ups, bench presses, and overhead presses helps improve your pushing/tulak technique. I demonstrate several variations of push-ups and one isometric exercise. Try them!
