Attacking Combinations
The story of how I came up with the “Attacking Combinations” video!
While I miss teaching classes and private lessons, one of the upsides of the lockdown is that I have had mucho time on my hands to figure out variations of solo workouts. Hence, my posting of the various solo tutorials on my YouTube Channel.
One day, while analyzing the raw footage from the below session (as well as others), I realized that there were aspects of my performance that nagged at me. In particular, I was lacking attacking combinations, particularly with my left hand. Whenever I switched to my non-dominant left hand, I usually struck with either Angle 1 or Angle 6. That’s it.

Yes, you can say “Well, that’s not your dominant hand, after all. Don’t worry about it.”
On the one hand, that’s true. On the other hand, I see considerable room for improvement and knowing that will bug me to no end.
How do I address this?
Ah, that’s the benefit of having too much time on my hands.
Based on the 1, 2, 5, 12 drill that was taught by the late Professor Presas and emphasized by Masters of Tapi Tapi Chuck Gauss, Ken Smith, and Gaby Roloff, I started experimenting with different variations with my left hand.
I divided my combinations into two-count, three-count, and four-count combinations to improve my left hand and increase the variety of left hand attacking combinations. The combinations are based on the Modern Arnis angles of attack.

Since organizing the combinations, I have been practicing them on a daily basis. Imma gonna tell you, that it’s far more fun than doing the 12 angles of attack in rote fashion.
Instead of keeping them to myself, I’d like to share it to my students and to others who might be interested. 🙂
