Solo Training
Many of us cannot train with our martial arts classmates and friends during these extraordinary times. Since I have confined myself at home, I have done a fair bit of solo training, including, but not limited to, bodyweight and martial exercises, solo stick exercises, Shotokan katas, Modern Arnis stick, and empty-hand anyos.
I’ve also kept myself busy making Modern Arnis solo training tutorials. The planning, filming, and editing take up a fair portion of the day. What choice do I have? Sit around all day? Watch the news all day? NO! I’d rather do something productive.
I am not teaching Modern Arnis classes, private lessons, self-defense classes at Durham College/UOIT, and self-defense classes at the Abilities Centre. Also, I am a part-time Hearing Officer for two municipalities in Ontario. All hearings (except for an emergency hearing this week) have been postponed through June. Obviously, I am taking a financial hit during this time, but that pales in comparison to the lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
So that leaves me with a lot of time on my hands. I have found that making videos is a great way to occupy my time. As an aside, I have not used Zoom yet due to the audio aspect. I find that, even with cochlear implants, I fare much better in person than with audio coming over a streaming platform. In any case, I have been invited to a Zoom meeting with Durham College on Tuesday. It will be interesting to see what my audio comprehension is like. We shall see.
Anyway, below are some shorter videos that I produced last week. Feel free to check out the other videos.
Also, SUBSCRIBE to my YouTube channel! 🙂
I hope to be able to do 5 videos per week (1 per weekday). I hope I don’t run out of ideas!
Over to you, any suggestions for solo training videos? Some of my students have submitted some. Let’s hear from you!
